Laboratory origin of the coronavirus not proven

According to the White House, there is still no clear picture within the US government about the origin of the corona virus. National Security Council communications director John Kirby, 60, said in Washington Monday: “There is currently no agreement in the US government on exactly how Covid came about.”

He had been asked about a media report that the US Department of Energy had changed its assessment of the origin of the coronavirus and now assumed a possible lab malfunction.

The situation will be further investigated

“The intelligence community and the rest of the government are still investigating this,” Kirby said. There is no final conclusion yet. He said he could neither confirm nor deny the report.

Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, made a similar statement on Sunday. What US President Joe Biden (79) wants are facts, Kirby stressed. “He wants the whole government to get these facts straight, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re just not there yet.”

China rejects report

China rejected the media reports. Beijing Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, 50, said Monday that the search for the origin of the virus is a scientific matter and should not be “politicized”.

The reason for the back and forth of corona communication in the US is the assessment by the US Department of Energy of the origin of the corona virus. A laboratory malfunction is assumed.

So there was back and forth

This is according to a classified intelligence report recently presented to the White House and key members of Congress. The Wall Street Journal reported on this.

The Department of Energy now agrees with the FBI’s assessment that the virus likely spread through a malfunction in a Chinese laboratory. However, the ministry assumes this with a “low” degree of certainty.

US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, 46, said on Sunday he could not confirm or deny the report. (SDA/euc)
