The result of the vote in New York was “a strong testimony to the solidarity of the world community with the people of Ukraine against the backdrop of the anniversary of Russia’s total aggression,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter Thursday night. The vote is a “strong expression” of global support for the peace formula in Ukraine – which includes Russia’s full withdrawal from Ukraine, reparations and the legal prosecution of those responsible for Moscow’s war of aggression.
At the same time, Zelensky thanked all countries that had supported this United Nations resolution, which would make possible a “comprehensive, just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.
Shortly before, on the anniversary of the outbreak of the war, the UN General Assembly had again called by a large majority for the withdrawal of Russian troops. 141 of the 193 member states of the United Nations’ largest body voted in favor of a corresponding resolution on Thursday in New York.
