Secret documents affair: detectives want to suspend secrecy lawyer Trump Opponents of war in Russia live dangerously – this is how secret networks help escape

In the affair surrounding the classified documents owned by former US President Donald Trump, the Justice Department’s special counsel is pulling out the bigger guns.

Attorney M. Evan Corcoran arrives in federal court in Washington, July 22, 2022. Justice Department prosecutors are investigating the mishandling of classified documents at Donald Trump's Florida estate and…

Special investigator Jack Smith wants Trump to release a lawyer’s secret so that the lawyer can make further statements, multiple media reported Tuesday (local time). Smith’s team filed a motion in court to suspend the confidentiality of Trump attorney Evan Corcoran.

This can only be done if there is a suspicion that the lawyer has been used to commit or cover up a crime. This suggests that the special counsel appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland is taking on such a crime.

When he left the White House, Republican Trump took large quantities of government documents to his private estate in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, including a number of top secret documents. The FBI searched the property in August and seized several classified documents. The National Archives had previously asked Trump several times to return the documents. Investigators are investigating, among other things, whether Trump could have been guilty of obstruction of justice.

The document affair has kept the United States in suspense for months. Documents with confidential markings from his time as Vice President under Barack Obama have also surfaced in the private rooms of US President Joe Biden in recent weeks. Such documents were also repeatedly found in Trump Vice President Mike Pence. A special detective was therefore also deployed against Biden. (sda/dpa)
