Fried pickles & ranch dressing! And other snacks for the perfect Super Bowl treat
“Hey Baroni, can’t you make some recipes for the Super Bowl?”I hear shouting from the corner where our sports department is.
“Um…when is the Super Bowl?
“On Sunday!”
“SERIOUS?”

‘Yes, and can you name Fried Pickles, please?»
“Okay, then let’s do it!”
Basically chips & salsa, right?
Namely tortilla chips, honey! We want chips that you can dip here, so the classic Swiss fries are sub-optimal. No, tortilla chips is the keyword here. You have to make sure that these are not too salty or too spicy, because you really want to bring out the flavor of the dip… but hey, anything goes!
And so some salsas and dips, right?
Precisely. For this you need one or the other dip recipe. But first this:
– Double dipping is allowed in the immediate family circle (or as a couple with the sweetheart).
– Otherwise (at a company aperitif, watching football with friends, etc.) it is considered rude and should be avoided.
And since Corona you should probably just leave it at that. To be sure.
Back to the dips. Of course, you can get the usual ones from the wholesaler «Mild coarse salsa» buy from the jar. Otherwise (or on top of that) I suggest the following for Sunday:
Guacamole gringo
There are hundreds of variations of the good old guacamole. This is mine (which I got straight from Mexico, after all).
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Chile con queso
a drug. Because something like g… although you actually need that ineffable American Velveeta– Processed cheese, which is actually not cheese at all. But we make it here with freshly grated cheese. And start with a roux. Vamos!
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Mango Salsa
And now one of these fresh, fruity salsas!
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Ranch dressing
Okay, now we need the ubiquitous appearance Ranch dressing say that’s all over the US – but really everywhere now. As a salad dressing, even as a topping for pizza… you name it. The pizza thing is definitely not my cup of tea, but as a dip all-rounder for chicken wings and the like, ranch is very, very cool.
Either you order the final product from one of those online shops for expats (or you go to that bookstore in the center of Zurich that interestingly stocks a selection of British and American groceries)…or you create your own cheat version.
Kind of like:

And ranch dressing is great for:
Fried Pickle Spears
A southern classic: breaded and fried pickles. Its great, imfall.
Ingredients:
(quantities as desired)
Preparation:
Cheesy nachos
Oh, you don’t want to dip at all, but mix everything on a plate and eat it with your hands? Fine.
Preparation:
Possible toppings:
Supermarket Baja Fish Tacos
And for the more ambitious among you, I still recommend my supermarket cheat version of the Mexican Southern California street food classic!

So have fun Sunday night! Or…uh…early Monday morning! Hopefully the game turns into something. If not, it shouldn’t have been the snacks!
Food! To eat! Yes!
