Going vegan has become a trend in recent years – and yet some people still rely on this form of nutrition. For example for health reasons. This is now painfully demonstrated by the tragic fate of a student from Milan.

A few days ago, a shocking incident occurred in Milan. A 20-year-old design student was sitting in a vegan restaurant with her partner. After eating a burger there, she ordered a tiramisu – after the second spoon, she felt something was wrong. Shortness of breath, unconsciousness and coma followed.

According to the Italian “La Repubblica”, the young woman has now died after ten days. The cause of death: anaphylactic shock.

Incorrect vegan labelling

This would have been caused by an egg and milk allergy that the Italian had. But since animal ingredients should not actually be found in an exclusively vegan restaurant, the public prosecutor’s office of Milan is now investigating.

The tiramisu sold there was seized and examined for this, according to an RTL report Traces of cow’s milk and milk proteins have been found. In addition, the sandwich that was previously eaten in the restaurant must now be examined for traces of egg in the mayonnaise.

The police are investigating the manufacturer

According to the Italian report, the tiramisu was marked as vegan and only bought ready-made by the restaurant in question. The product has since been withdrawn from 63 restaurants across Italy. In the meantime, investigations are underway against the operator of the production company, the production manager and two employees.

The one that needs checking now Suspicions: negligent homicide, business fraud and counterfeit food sales. However, according to the Italian newspaper, the investigation could also extend to the restaurant.

Student was very careful

Meanwhile, the student’s family mourns. Due to the severe allergy, the 20-year-old only ate outdoors with great caution. Because of the danger, there were never any dairy products in her household. In the restaurant, she also explicitly asked whether the product was compatible with her allergy. She was therefore convinced that she could eat the tiramisu.

On Wednesday, her boyfriend, to whom she would have been engaged, should report to the police in detail about what happened and, according to “La Rebubblica”, also give an explanation there.
