Madonna has responded to criticism of her appearance and made it clear on Instagram how she feels about it. At the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, the 64-year-old introduced the Cologne singer Kim Petras, who was the first trans woman to receive the important music award. She can’t understand why people are now talking about her face online instead of the “fearlessness” of certain artists. She accuses the users of “age discrimination and misogyny”.
Madonna writes longer lyrics for a Grammys backstage video. She writes that it was an honor for her to introduce Kim Petras. But instead of focusing on the content of her speech, “many have chosen to talk only about close-up shots of me, taken by a photographer with a wide-angle lens, that would distort someone’s face.”
She continues, “Once again I stand in the face of ageism and misogyny that permeate the world we live in.” This world refuses to “celebrate women over 45” and instead sees a need to “punish them if they remain strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous.”
Madonna clarifies that she has never apologized for her work, her appearance or her clothes and never will: “Since the beginning of my career I’ve been all over the media, but I know it’s all a test and I I am happy to pave the way so that all women after me will have it easier in the future.”
