Hollywood star Viola Davis has been honored with a Grammy for her autobiography “Finding Me” audiobook, achieving so-called “EGOT” status. Various American media reported this on Sunday evening (local time). EGOT award winners are artists who have won all four major American entertainment trophies: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
The 57-year-old beat out Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jamie Foxx, Questlove and Mel Brooks in the Best Spoken Album category. In her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, she said, “I wrote this book in honor of six-year-old Viola. In honor of her life, her joy, her trauma.”
In 2001 and 2010, Davis received a Tony for her roles in the Broadway plays “King Hedley II” and “Fences”. In 2015, she received an Emmy for her lead role in the crime series How to Get Away with Murder. In 2017, she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film adaptation of “Fences”.
Artists with all four awards include Audrey Hepburn, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson. The latter turned to her newly added actress colleague on Twitter: “Congratulations to a living legend. Time to party!” (sda/dpa)
