At least three dead and hundreds injured in Iran earthquake Ex-Vice President Pence on classified documents: “Take full responsibility”

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck northwestern Iran, killing at least three people and injuring more than 440. The quake’s epicenter was in the city of Choi in West Azerbaijan province, Iranian media reported Sunday evening. For example, numerous buildings were damaged in Choi and dozens of other cities in the border area with Turkey. According to local authorities, the area was rocked by another twelve aftershocks on Sunday night.

According to the Geoforschungszentrum Potsdam, the earthquake occurred at around 9:44 p.m. (local time) in the evening at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The Iranian government immediately dispatched Red Crescent rescuers to the affected areas. For fear of further aftershocks, more than 70,000 families had to spend the night outside despite the freezing cold.

Only on Wednesday a week ago there had already been an earthquake in the region. At least 120 people were injured and hundreds of buildings were damaged. (sda/dpa)
