Since the corona pandemic, Switzerland has been facing a “flare-up of inequality” in the country. That is what Secretary of State Livia Leu said on Friday before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
“The drastic measures” that were taken in the fight against the corona virus would have potential threats to fundamental rights, especially those of minorities and the most vulnerable, Leu told other member states. Nevertheless, the human rights situation in Switzerland is “relatively good”.
Improvements are especially possible in the field of racial discriminationsaid Leu. Switzerland is repeatedly accused of this. She also outlined preparations for the National Human Rights Institution, which will launch in May.
As every four years, the Swiss delegation will be heard by the UN Council on Friday. She faces accusations and demands for hours on end.
