Serbs in Kosovo injured by shots from special police officers Historian Niall Ferguson: ‘Corona was the best pandemic that could exist’

In an incident at a checkpoint in Kosovo, a Serb was injured by shots fired by police officers from Kosovo’s special unit Rosu. Serbs in a car failed to stop near the town of Mitrovica on Monday, despite being asked to do so, and rammed a police vehicle, Kosovo police said in the capital Pristina.

Kosovo police officers guard a roadside checkpoint at the Jarinje border crossing in northern Kosovo, along the border between Kosovo and Serbia, Kosovo, Friday, Dec. 12. December 30, 2022. Serbia withdrew from combat on Thursday…

Rosu special forces officers opened fire on the vehicle for their own protection, the report said. The car continued its journey without stopping or being stopped. According to the information, the police officers controlled traffic not far from the border with Serbia to prevent smuggling and criminal activity.

Kosovo’s government chancellery in Belgrade announced that one of the occupants of the vehicle was seriously injured by gunfire. He was taken to hospital in the Serbian city of Kraljevo. A second passenger was not injured. Accordingly, there were no other people in the vehicle, which had numerous bullet holes.

Kosovo, which has been independent since 2008, is now inhabited almost exclusively by Albanians. Serbia does not recognize the state of its former province and claims the territory of Kosovo for itself.

Tensions between Serbs and Albanians, especially in the north around the divided city of Mitrovica, have repeatedly surfaced, fueled by Belgrade. At the end of 2022, militant Serbs set up barricades in a dozen places in the north of Kosovo, blocking access roads to border crossings into Serbia, among other things. (sda/dpa)
