Death sentence in Iran: British-Iranian ex-leader Aliresa Akbari was executed on espionage charges.
As the justice portal Misan announced, he was killed on Saturday. Iran had sentenced him to death in an espionage trial for leaking secrets. Akbari, his wife and brother had vehemently denied the allegations in recent days.
As the “BBC” reports, the former Iranian deputy defense minister was arrested and convicted in 2019 of spying for the United Kingdom. However, Akbari has always vehemently denied the allegations.
The UK sided with the politician and urged Iran to halt the planned execution. “This is a politically motivated act by a barbaric regime that has a total disregard for human life,” Secretary of State James Cleverly tweeted. (SDA/dzc)
