Man (41) stabs woman, steals cars and rams police officers

A 41-year-old man is said to have stabbed his wife in the back and abdomen in the Austrian city of Linz on Monday morning. A few hours later, the suspect showed up at her workplace and threatened an alleged rival with two knives, Upper Austria police chief Andreas Pilsl said.

While fleeing the second crime scene, the man crashed into a police road check and seriously injured an officer, it said. He then stole the police officer’s assault rifle and forced another driver to give him his car.

Motive: Researchers assume jealousy

After another accident, the suspect allegedly attempted to rob another vehicle. He fired a shot. The police eventually managed to arrest the 41-year-old.

The wife of the perpetrator, who managed to alert the police after the attack, underwent surgery and, according to the public prosecutor’s office, is not in danger of life. Her husband is now under investigation for attempted murder. The authorities assume jealousy as the motive for the crime. (SDA/no)
