Russian writer Mikhail Shishkin, who lives in Switzerland, indirectly blamed Switzerland for the war in Ukraine. According to him, Switzerland’s mistakes go back to the 1990s. According to him, World War III started in 2014.

During the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, the Swiss “built their Hüsli there, and as a result we had the annexation of Crimea,” Schischkin said in an interview with Tamedia newspapers on Tuesday. The award-winning author has lived in Switzerland since 1994.

During the 2018 World Cup, he called on Switzerland to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine. “But the Swiss wanted to play football just like everyone else.” Russia’s Kremlin head, Vladimir Putin, has gotten the message: the West is quietly supporting the war. “This paved the way for the attack on Ukraine on February 24.”

According to Schischkin, Switzerland had already made mistakes in the 1990s. “Together with other Western states, it should have helped the fledgling Russian democracy of the 1990s get back on its feet,” said the author, who was critical of the Kremlin. Instead, she aided the “new criminal dictatorship”.

As an interpreter working in Switzerland, Schischkin saw Switzerland accept “the dirty money with great joy”. Without the support of Switzerland, but also of London and the US, there would not have been a “bandit dictatorship”. (sda)
