Not only Ukrainian men are fighting against Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) and his troops. More and more women are also joining the military resistance. According to Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar, 44, “at least 30,000 women” have volunteered for military service. 5000 female soldiers are stationed directly at the front. The women are especially popular as snipers, as the “Economist” reports. They are “faster and more precise” than the men, says one of the trainers. They are also more patient and take fewer risks.
“Rape, tortured – and executed”
“You have to kill without thinking about it. You have to give a fuck. And to be honest: I personally don’t give a shit,” says a young woman with the alias “Sultan” (24). Together with two other women, she is training as a sniper and wants to fight on the frontline against Putin’s troops.
The women know that if they get caught, the worst threatens them. Her colleague codenamed “Phoenix” says, “If a sniper is captured, she will be raped, humiliated, tortured – and eventually executed.” Therefore, a sniper must always be ready for the extreme. “If necessary, you can also blow yourself up with a grenade.”
“Sultan” says that her little daughter has already reconciled to the thought that she could die. “She told me she will be sad when that happens, but she will always have a place in her heart for me.” Yet it is a matter of honor for them to go to war. “I’m doing everything I can to make sure your generation doesn’t have to worry about Putin and this crazy world.” (zis)
