First Albanian truck driver is praised for her bravery

Bianca Dervishi was still a minor when she left Albania for Italy 16 years ago, according to Albora, a news site for the Albanian-speaking diaspora in Switzerland. She has built a new life in Italy and tries every day to make her dreams come true.

She started working as a hairdresser, but soon realized that she didn’t want to do this for long. So she gave up the job and decided to pursue her passion. She started training as a truck driver.

Even as a child she was fascinated by large vehicles. “When I was very young, I often drove the van with my father to deliver to the store we had. I was always more of a daddy girl than a mama girl who loved dolls or something like that. I prefer to play with trucks.”

She has almost 200,000 followers on Tiktok

Now she is behind the wheel herself. «The truck is my second home». At first, the men would have looked strange when they saw the Albanian woman at the wheel. After all, it wasn’t a woman’s job, she was told. She is now well known in the trucker scene – and beyond. Because on Tiktok she shares her life as a truck driver. She now has almost 200,000 followers.

According to her own statement, she also inspires many girls and women to realize their dreams. Some even started truck training.

Two to three times a year she visits her home country Albania. She misses Albania because she associates many memories with it. (lrc)
