An old red Audi parked against a tree, a burnt-out Citroën Berlingo on the sidewalk a few yards away. Inside: a corpse. A hiker walking his dog made this terrifying discovery on St. Stephen’s Day in Duisburg, West Germany. The accident happened at the end of a cul-de-sac.
The background is unclear. Researchers are amazed. “How it could have happened and who was involved is so far unclear,” the German police said in a statement. They are therefore urgently looking for witnesses who could have made suspicious observations around the scene of the accident. “It could have been an accident, an illegal car race or suicide, anything is possible,” said a Bild police spokeswoman.
The homicide department also got involved. Traces of blood were found in the Audi. It is not known whose they are. It is also unclear who died in the burnt-out Citroën Berlingo. The authorities are now one step further. The two vehicles belong to a man (40) who lives in Duisburg. However, he could not be asked about it, “Bild” continues. (jmh)
