EU and UN call for an immediate end to the violence

All those involved in the conflict must be held accountable, including those who incite and incite violence, a joint statement said on Wednesday.

At least 60 people, including many women and children, have been killed in clashes in the Greater Pibor administrative area of Jonglei state, authorities said. Fighters of a youth militia would be responsible for this. The UN mission offered to support the South Sudanese transitional government in protecting the civilian population.

South Sudan has been independent since 2011. In 2013, civil war erupted in the oil-rich and conflict-ravaged country, killing thousands and displacing millions. Despite a peace agreement of five years ago, various armed groups continue to fight for more influence. For more than two years, the country has been led by a fragile transitional government led by President Salva Kiir and former rebel leader Riek Machar.
