On Friday, a man fired several shots at a Kurdish community center, killing three people and wounding three others.
The parents of the suspected attacker in Paris are dumbfounded by the shots fired at migrants before Christmas.
“It’s hard to believe that the night before we played Scrabble as if nothing had happened,” his mother told the newspaper “Le Parisien” (Wednesday). It was an unforgivable act and a disproportionate revenge that had matured since the son’s house was broken into, his father said. His parents said he had changed during his detention for an earlier attack on foreigners.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the alleged perpetrator confessed to a “pathological xenophobia” on Sunday. Since a burglary six years ago, the 68-year-old has always wanted to kill foreigners.
He was always a loner, never smoked, never drank, and never proposed to a boyfriend or girlfriend, his parents said. He always told them he was asexual. From an early age he was always very quiet.
The suspect had only been released a few days before the crime. Last year he attacked a migrant camp and injured several people. According to media reports, in 2016 he attacked a man with a knife. (sda/dpa)
