Trump’s tax documents will be published on Friday Price cap dispute escalates: Putin will ban oil exports to certain countries from February

The tax documents of former US President Donald Trump will be published on Friday, US media reported on Wednesday evening based on insiders. Last week, a congressional committee with a majority of Democrats decided to publish at least parts of the documents. However, the date was still unclear as sensitive data such as social security numbers had yet to be cleared.

Trump had fought back through legal means for years, to release the documents to the finance committee – and ultimately failed in the Supreme Court. The documents should provide new insights into the ex-president’s finances.

Republican commissioner Lloyd Doggett said after the vote that all tax documents requested in court would be published. It is about Trump’s tax records from 2015 to 2020. The release of Trump’s tax records marks the end of a nearly four-year legal battle House Democrats waged against the former president after seizing control of the House of Representatives in 2019.

Contrary to common practice in the United States, real estate entrepreneur Trump did not make his tax returns public, either as a presidential candidate or after taking office in the White House. Critics therefore suspect that he has something to hide. The Democrats wanted, among other things investigate whether the documents indicate a conflict of interest and whether Trump used questionable methods to cut taxes. Trump’s tax records were reportedly turned over to the panel in early December.

Trump announced in November that he would run again as the Republican presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
