The former commander of the Russian land forces, General Alexei Maslow, has died. The Russian news agency TASS spoke of a “sudden” death at the military hospital NN Burdenko on Sunday (local time). The news is based on a statement from the Uralvagonzavod defense contractor, where Maslow last worked.
Maslow’s age at the time of his death is unclear: he was reportedly 69 or 70 years old. There was also no information about the exact cause of death.
Maslow worked as a NATO representative
The company paid tribute to the ex-commander as one who had achieved a “glorious” rise. Maslow worked his way up from platoon commander to commander in chief of the army.
According to Tass, Maslow received many awards and medals in Russia. From 2008 to 2011, he was the highest military representative of the Russian Federation to NATO.
Uralvagonzavod was quoted by TASS as saying that Maslow had remained loyal to the cause and his homeland until his last day while working as Special Representative for Military and Technical Cooperation. His contribution to the development of the company should not be underestimated.
