A German tourist has to pay a hefty fine for an incorrectly affixed motorway vignette.
The 60-year-old tried to cheat authorities in November with a Vaseline trick. But the officials at the border crossing at St. Margrethen SG put a spoke in his wheel.
“stuck on cling film”
During a check, the police found that a manipulated vignette had been attached to the windscreen of the Citroën.
“The vignette was pasted on a transparent film and attached to the windshield with Vaseline,” quoted “20 minutes” from the prosecutor’s punishment order. “The vignette can therefore be used several times, which does not comply with the provisions of the legislator.”
woman as a pretext
However, the man did not admit his mistake. Instead, he used his wife as an explanation.
He wanted to drive from Bavaria to her in Alsace and because his car was in the workshop at the time, he removed the vignette there and stuck it on the Citroën.
400 francs fine and 300 francs compensation
The criminal authorities did not accept this and sentenced the German to a conditional fine of 20 daily exchange rates of 80 francs for counterfeiting official stamps.
He is also fined 400 francs and has to pay 300 francs restitution. The vignette cheater had to pay this 700 francs on the spot. His vignette was immediately destroyed. (Man)
