Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (45) called on Italians to cut off gas and electricity for an hour every day. This is intended to give citizens a better understanding of what Ukrainians are going through. That writes news agency Reuters.
Because there is currently no electricity in many places in Ukraine. Russian troops have made it their mission to destroy Ukraine’s infrastructure. The Ukrainians cannot keep up with the recovery work.
“To understand what the Ukrainians are going through, I urge all Italians to turn off all energy sources for one hour a day,” Meloni said in a speech to a meeting of Italian ambassadors in Rome.
The Italian Prime Minister expressed her respect for the Ukrainians. Because they defend “freedom and their love for their country,” says Meloni. She also promised further arms deliveries to Ukraine. But this also met with criticism within her party Fratelli d’Italia. The party particularly emphasizes the importance of nationalism and patriotism.
