In his speech, he called on future ministers to take into account the diversity of the Brazilian population in their departments.

In recent weeks, Lula has nominated a number of ministers, including 2018 presidential candidate Fernando Haddad for economic affairs, diplomat Mauro Vieira as foreign minister and singer Margareth Menezes as culture minister. Left-wing politician Lula won in a runoff against incumbent right-wing Jair Bolsonaro at the end of October. The 77-year-old was president of the largest country in Latin America from 2003 to 2010. He will take up his duties on January 1, 2023. (sda/dpa)
