On a jack-up platform, two people unrolled a banner at Pariser Platz in Berlin-Mitte that read: “This is just the tip of the Christmas tree,” a police spokeswoman said. They then drove the lifting platform to the top of the 15 meter high Nordmann fir on Wednesday morning during the protest.
They cut off the tip with a handsaw, the climate activists of the Last Generation group announced themselves. “So far in Germany we have only seen the tip of the underlying catastrophe,” one activist said of the protest. Police said they were on the scene. Measures are now being taken, said the police spokeswoman, without giving further details.
