Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced his resignation from the online service. “I will step down as CEO,” Musk wrote on the short message service on Tuesday. He added as a condition that he first had to find someone “dumb enough” to do the job. He will then only lead the network’s software and server teams.
In a poll initiated by Musk himself, a majority of Twitter users had previously spoken in favor of his resignation. The multibillionaire warned ahead of the vote that there were no interested parties who could “actually keep Twitter alive”.
I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will only lead the software and server teams.

He himself had taken over the top spot when he bought the internet platform for about $ 44 billion in October. However, Musk had already indicated that this should not be a permanent solution. He also heads electric car maker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX.
Musk’s nearly two months as “Head of Twitter” have been marked by chaos and controversy. After a series of highly controversial decisions, the headwinds for the 51-year-old star entrepreneur have become increasingly stronger. The Twitter poll he himself initiated on Sunday was pretty clear: 57.5 percent of the 17.5 million votes were in favor of stepping down. Musk had previously assured that he would abide by the result of the vote.
Musk’s Twitter purchase aroused suspicion from the start. The multi-billionaire justified the takeover as a move to strengthen freedom of speech. However, critics feared that the internet platform would be further mishandled and that the change of ownership could lead to more rampant hate speech, hate speech and disinformation. Musk failed to address those concerns.
On the contrary: With a wave of layoffs, erratic rule changes and other controversial decisions, he shook the online network and frightened advertisers – its main source of income.
