Texas sends nearly 90 migrants to Philadelphia by bus China defends zero-Covid policy

In the dispute over the migration policy of the United States, Republican-ruled Texas has again had dozens of refugees brought to a democratic state. Nearly 90 migrants who originally crossed the US border into Texas arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on two buses on Friday (local time). Aid organizations reported that the refugees mainly came from Colombia and Nicaragua.

Opposition Republicans have been accusing Democratic President Joe Biden for months of being overly lax in migration policy and securing the border with Mexico. A particularly large number of refugees arrive in Texas, which is right on the border. Republican governor Greg Abbott wants to put pressure on ‘deportation campaigns’ in democratic American states.

In a spectacular move, Abbott and his Florida colleague, Ron DeSantis, chartered planes and buses in September to take migrants to the posh resort island of Martha’s Vineyard and into Washington. The Democrats then accused the Republicans of using those affected as “political pawns”. (sda/afp)
