The searches are related to investigations launched at the end of October into allegations of mismanagement of campaign accounts and allegations of favoritism and aiding nepotism, the prosecutor said in Paris on Wednesday. The focus is on whether Macron has improperly benefited from the services of the consultancy, which has been conducting tax investigations in France since the spring.
The investigation concerns Macron’s presidential election campaigns in 2017 and 2022. According to the prosecutor’s office, McKinsey’s Paris headquarters, the headquarters of Macron’s Renaissance party and the headquarters of the association involved in funding the party were searched. The searches were carried out by coroners in the presence of detectives from the Paris criminal investigation department.
