The Ukrainian army shot down a Russian Kamov Ka-52 Alligator helicopter near the disputed town of Svatovo. Video from the Ukrainian Air Force shows an explosion in the sky, after which a plane crashes to the ground. The shooting is believed to have taken place around 2 p.m. on Sunday. The 138th Air Defense Brigade from Dnipro is responsible. Watch the scenes in the video above.
The Russian Telegram channel “Fighterbomber” says that the pilots died in the attack. It was the “most productive crew of the group”, “they were the best of the best”, the bloggers write about the death of the two fighters. Both have already received three medals for special bravery. They should also be honored with the title “Great Heroes of Russia”. This should now be done posthumously.
Eliminated a total of 263 helicopters
The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator helicopter has been in service with the Russian military since 1997 and is said to be worth about $16 million (14.96 million Swiss francs). It is mainly used for combat missions, such as against enemy helicopters.
Unlike conventional attack helicopters, the two pilots in the Ka-52 do not sit behind each other, but next to each other. They have ejection seats that are part of an automatic rescue system designed to eject the two pilots in a fraction of a second in an emergency. According to one report, the same ejection seats did not work for the “Bart” crew pilots.
According to the Ukrainian government, a total of at least 263 helicopters of various types have been eliminated since the start of the Russian offensive war. This information could not be independently verified.
