“Wednesday” has already broken a memorable record on Netflix: in the first week after its release, the series was streamed for a total of 341.2 million hours worldwide. In contrast, even “Dahmer” (196.2 million hours watched in the first week) and the fourth season of “Stranger Things” (286.79 million hours) are watching in the tube.
But Netflix is also doing everything it can to promote the horror comedy. In New York, the streaming service has now launched a curious campaign with a special ‘fan favorite’ from the series.
“Wednesday”: Severed hand shocks people in New York
The protagonist from “Wednesday” is accompanied by a living severed hand – a special gimmick that many fans especially love. But what about meeting this hand (in the original version it’s simply called “Thing”) in real life?
Netflix is now implementing this mind game in the Big Apple, broadcasting a fairly real-looking dummy hand to drive New Yorkers onto the streets. The result is recorded on Youtube.
People’s reactions are very different. Some are just shocked and then laugh. However, a little girl seen at the beginning of the clip immediately starts crying when she sees the changing hand and is clearly upset. Actually quite nasty.
Among other things, the hand is in motion on a skateboard and boldly extends the middle finger. In another scene, she takes it easy and plays chess with a man. It can also be seen during a subway ride. Here she falls off the armrest onto a chair. So humor and horror go hand in hand in this action, just like in the series.
“Wednesday” hand delights the fans
In any case, the video is well received in the comments on YouTube. The hand of “Wednesday” has “more personality than any character from ‘Riverdale’,” for example, one user notes, also dishing out a swipe.

Another person gives a direct compliment to Netflix and a wish back: “The marketing for this show is just fantastic! I hope Netflix extends this series for a second season.» This fan shouldn’t be alone in that.
The hand in particular is so popular that sympathy for the girl from the prank video is limited. “I’ve never felt so guilty about seeing kids cry in fear,” says one amused user.
