The Conservative politician will sit in the London constituencies of Uxbridge and South Ruislip, the PA news agency reported Thursday, citing a “Johnson-related source”. The local conservatives expressed their confidence in the 58-year-old. If Johnson manages to get back into parliament in the expected vote in 2024, he could run for leadership of his Conservative Party again.
However, the former prime minister faces headwinds when a parliamentary inquiry reveals he lied to parliament in the ‘Partygate’ affair about lockdown parties in Downing Street. He had to resign in July 2022 after a series of scandals. Since then he has given speeches all over the world for large fees. Most recently, however, he has spoken several times from his constituency, which he has represented since 2015.
All Tory MPs have until Monday to decide whether to run again in 2024, Sky News reported. The opposition Labor Party is currently leading in polls. This is one of the reasons why many conservatives have already announced that they will not do this. Among them are a striking number of younger MPs, such as Dehenna Davison (29), William Wragg (34) and Chloe Smith (40), who were Minister of Labor under short-lived Prime Minister Liz Truss. Several Labor MPs have also announced their departure, but their average age is significantly higher.
