You probably have no idea who won an Oscar in March 2022. But what you do know for sure: Will Smith punched Chris Rock in the face. in the middle of the stage. For the cameras. On the talk show “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah, he gave insight into what was going on in his head at the time – and also did some advertising for his new movie.
You can see the whole interview here:
In the interview, Smith tearfully says that he was beside himself that night and that this was not the person he wanted to be. “I just experienced something that night. It’s not like I’m excusing my actions.”
It was anger that simmered in him for a long time before it boiled over that night. He felt taken back: “I was the little boy again who had to watch his father beat his mother.”
No Will Smith at the Oscars until 2043
The actor also said that if someone doesn’t want to see him in his new movie “Emancipation” because of that, he totally understands. Nevertheless, he fervently hopes that the entire team behind the film will not be held responsible for its mistakes – and that viewers will still watch the film.
Filming for “Emancipation” was completed before Oscar night in March and the film will be released on Apple TV+ on December 9, 2022. Will Smith plays a slave on his way to freedom. Next year’s Oscars would have to take place without the 54-year-old, as he has now been banned for 10 years.
