Mali withdrawal according to German politician a failure of Europe “Have a deal”: Serbia and Kosovo with compromise in car number dispute

The deputy leader of the Greens in the German Bundestag, Agnieszka Brugger, sees the withdrawal of the Bundeswehr from Mali agreed by the traffic light coalition as a failure of European politics.

“Unfortunately, European governments have once again failed to map out a common foreign policy,” she told the editorial network Germany (RND/Thursday). “Instead, some of our partners very quickly left the mission on their own without any real common strategic direction. Such mistakes must not be repeated.” This requires a long-term commitment in the Sahel and a European consensus.

Before Germany, France, Great Britain and Denmark had already announced the withdrawal of their own troops. According to a decision by the federal government, the current 1200 soldiers of the Bundeswehr must be withdrawn from the UN mission Minusma in Mali by May 2024. The federal government has announced an orderly withdrawal. At the same time, expectations arose that the United Nations and the African Union would use the time to organize a successor. (sda/dpa)
