There are signs of high turnout in Malaysia’s parliamentary elections. According to the authorities, more than 40 percent of the approximately 21 million eligible voters had already cast their vote on Saturday morning four hours after the polling stations opened. There were a lot of young people in the queues. Reason: For the first time, all citizens from the age of 18 have the right to vote, before the minimum age was 21 years.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved parliament in October after a split between his party UMNO and its allies and announced new elections.
