In Milan, climate activists threw eight kilos of flour at an exhibit of car artwork by American pop artist Andy Warhol.
With the action on Friday morning in the Fabbrica del Vapore cultural center, the women of the Ultima Generazione (Last Generation) wanted to draw attention to the “climate collapse”, as the group announced in the northern Italian metropolis. A video showed them approaching 1979 German sports cars painted by Andy Warhol and throwing the flour packages at them.
Security guards then dragged two activists out of the room, as seen below. Some visitors quarreled with the women. “We don’t see you yelling at the oil companies. We don’t see you in front of the megaships in Venice. We’ll see you with flour for a car. Do you understand this nonsense?” shouted an angry man, as seen on another video of the group. According to Ultima Generazione, members of the group wanted to stick to the car windows, but couldn’t.

“The artworks were intended to highlight the value hypocrisy of our society,” the group justified the action. There is outrage about the “simulated destruction of works of art,” but there is indifference about the destruction of nature, it said. The climate activists had also held onto other works of art in Italy, most recently a Van Gogh painting in Rome. In the capital, they regularly block road sections such as the important ring road.
