Now Trump’s climate conference revenge campaign begins without Greta – the climate movement’s problem with capitalism

The Republicans narrowly won a majority in the House of Representatives. Yet this is now Trump’s greatest asset for creating chaos.

To no good: Donald Trump

The Democrats had hoped to the end. In the mid-term elections, they not only wanted to defend the majority in the Senate, but also in the House of Representatives. But now it’s clear: the Republicans are getting a late and extremely narrow, but still majority in this chamber of the US Congress. After the first frenzy of joy, this will be the first real disillusionment.

If the victors in the Legislative Assembly were the Republicans of yesteryear, the outcome would be nothing but the Democratic state of affairs. Biden would have a harder time getting his laws passed and would have to rule with presidential decrees if necessary.

Despite growing criticism of Donald Trump, it is a “new Grand Old Party” (GOP). Their representatives care about more than just blocking Joe Biden, namely about destroying the political opponent. A change in the existing political system has long ceased to be their focus. Without hiding it, large parts of the party and its parliamentarians strive for an authoritarian version of the US.

Nothing shows this attitude more than in the lie about electoral fraud. Donald Trump, that much is certain, will do everything in his power to exert his influence on the members of parliament who are loyal to him. There are more than 180 elected representatives in the House of Representatives who have expressed doubts about Joe Biden’s legitimate election. Despite the defeats of many Trump candidates, this is a unique, historic event.

Their accounts will bear his signature, even though he himself is based in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. This will affect the whole world, including Germany. Along with Trump’s candidacy, the United States will now be more self-centered than before so that democracy doesn’t explode in their faces. The Biden administration, which is wrestling with foreign policy, will also feel the consequences.

Just crazy projects

What the Americans call a real “shit show” is now waiting in Washington. An unprecedented mud fight in the high building. It would be a disaster for democracy. With power regained in the House of Representatives, Trump and his henchmen can now shape the political agenda and public discourse. Although the majority is extremely small, it is always enough to establish the subjects.

So many promises were made to the radical party base during the election campaign that even a fraction of them is enough to block the system repeatedly. Trump needs immediate fodder for his disappointed base in the party’s internal election campaign and then for his run for the White House. The following can now happen:

That sounds like the worst possible horror scenario. Perhaps the Republicans are not dismantling democracy, but themselves first. The extremes within the group could hardly be further apart. The outcome of the midterm elections seems beneficial for democracy. But the deep chasm in society is far from closed.

On the contrary, Donald Trump left no doubt in his candidacy speech that he was now about to dig further trenches. Just because the American people didn’t suffer enough didn’t mean the midterm elections turned out so well, he said. Citizens just wouldn’t understand it yet. “You don’t really feel it yet. But they will very soon,” Trump said.
