For over 20 years, Jay Leno entertained America as the host of the legendary talk show The Tonight Show. In 2014 he finally handed over the reins to Jimmy Fallon. But it shouldn’t be a final farewell to show business. The 72-year-old is still on stage with his own programs, but was scheduled to perform at a financial conference in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

But the appointment was canceled at short notice – and the TV star was very worried. Because the reason was a “very serious medical emergency,” the organizer said in an email that quoted “TMZ,” among other things. A few hours later it was clear: Jay Leno had had a serious accident and had to be hospitalized.

Jay Leno is being treated in a special clinic

One of the avid car collector’s vehicles caught fire and he suffered second- and possibly third-degree burns, the portal reported. The 72-year-old was then taken to a special clinic in Los Angeles, where he continues to receive treatment. Jay Leno has had skin grafts on his face and hands. Another surgery is scheduled for this week, treating physician Peter Grossman said on Wednesday.

The condition of the former moderator of the “Tonight Show” is “good”. He runs around again and “tears jokes”. After the accident, Leno said, “I’m fine. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

However, Grossman warned on Wednesday that the recovery is likely to take more time. According to the doctor, the course of burns is difficult to predict. But he assumes that the TV star will “fully recover”.

After the talk show, Jay Leno has completely devoted himself to his great hobby: cars and motorcycles. Over the decades he has collected dozens of copies. As of 2015, his “Jay Leno’s Garage” column for “Popular Mechanics” magazine even became a TV show. In it, the presenter travels across the USA on the trail of legendary vehicles.
