The top US general, Mark Milley (64), warns against exaggerated hopes of a short-term military victory for Ukraine. In light of its military failure, Russia is currently attacking Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
And: «The Ukrainians have achieved one success after another. And the Russians failed every time. They lost strategically, they lost operationally and they lost tactically.”
Then follows a big but from US Chief of Staff Mark Milley. “The likelihood of a Ukrainian military victory – defined as driving the Russians out of all of Ukraine, including their supposed Crimea – is not very high militarily.”
Russia is currently on its back
A political solution is therefore necessary. However, Ukraine must be able to hold talks with Russia from a position of strength. “It’s possible,” Milley said. Russia is “on its back at the moment”.
Meanwhile, Milley accused Russia of waging a “campaign of terror” against the Ukrainian people. “Intentionally attacking the civilian power grid, causing unnecessary collateral damage and unnecessary suffering to the civilian population, is a war crime,” the general said. (EU)
