Australia proves once again that it is a country of extremes: Meteorologists measured a temperature difference of 50 degrees between the warmest and coldest place Down Under in less than 24 hours, according to the weather service Weatherzone. In Fitzroy Crossing in the state of Western Australia, 43 degrees were measured on Tuesday afternoon. In Mount Hotham in the state of Victoria on the east coast, values fell to minus 7 degrees early Wednesday morning.
While the heat in the west isn’t terribly unusual, the cold in the east is a surprise, meteorologist Jessica Miskelly said. “Such a temperature difference is quite unusual for November.” Most recently, in September 2018, there was a similarly large disparity, including between places on the west and east coasts, as the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported.
