Protesters call for more climate protection

During the demonstrations as part of a global day of action midway through the COP27 world climate conference in Egypt, the protesters carried posters warning about the negative effects of fossil fuels on the climate, as shown on television images.

With slogans and signs, the people of industrialized countries, which are said to have caused climate change through particularly high CO2 emissions, demanded compensation for climate damage in poorer countries.

An Alliance for the Climate called for the demonstrations, which it said was joined by about 50 groups at the demonstrations. The organizers spoke of several thousand participants in rallies in 16 Spanish cities.

At the COP27 world climate conference in Sharm el Sheikh, representatives from nearly 200 countries discuss how to step up the fight against global warming. The conference will run until November 18.
