The US Department of Commerce announced this on Thursday (local time). This would allow the Washington government to impose significantly higher tariffs on imports of Russian goods.
The reason for the measure is the “increasing interference (…) by Russia in its own economy”. Washington accuses the Russian government of subsidizing the country’s businesses. This puts US industry at a disadvantage when trying to compete globally, the ministry said.
Anti-dumping measures are intended to compensate for the fact that imported goods are sold below market price by means of additional tariffs.
The actions of the US government are also an indirect way of imposing new sanctions on Russia. The United States had already imposed massive sanctions on Moscow in February over the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
