KFC advertises crispy chicken with Nazi atrocities

According to Focus, users of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) app were shown highly inappropriate ads on Wednesday. «Remembrance Day of the Reichspogromnacht. Treat yourself to more tender cheese with the crispy chicken, » read the customers as a push message on their mobile phones.

This caused a real shit storm on social media. Among them was Ali Utlu. Shocked, he wrote on Twitter: “Is it even more tacky? I am now deleting the app, this is going too far and cannot be excused,” he wrote indignantly on Twitter. Other KFC customers were also shocked.

“Unbelievable” or “Interns at work?” his further comments. The fast food chain spoke out shortly afterwards and apologized – again via app. “Sorry, we made a mistake. Due to a bug in our system, we sent an incorrect and inappropriate message through our app. We are very sorry.”

Semi-automatic process

KFC explained to the German magazine “Stern” that the push message was sent via a “semi-automatic process”. This process is associated with calendars, ie holidays or memorial days are included in them. This is how this advertisement for the Reichspogromnacht came about.

According to the fast food chain, the substantive verification was not carried out correctly in this case. Hence the random announcement. “We immediately stopped app communication,” the company says.

On the night of November 9, 1938, synagogues and other Jewish institutions in Germany were set on fire, Jewish businesses looted and Jews harassed, arrested or murdered. Since then, the Reichsprogromnacht has been commemorated. (lrc)
