In the American state of Pennsylvania, the midterm elections caused a big sensation. Democrat John Fetterman (53) beats Republican Mehmet Oz (62) to secure a seat in the Senate. Fettermann steals a seat from the Republicans, a big surprise.
In addition to the major senate elections, there is also a very crazy election in the eastern state. As the Pittsburgh local newspaper “Post-Gazette” reports, Tony DeLuca (†85) has also been re-elected to the local legislature – although he recently passed away!
New elections will be held soon
Democrats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives reported the incident on Twitter on Tuesday evening, which sparked many smiles in the American media. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Representative Tony DeLuca, but are proud that voters will continue to demonstrate their confidence in him and his commitment to democratic values by having him posthumously re-elected,” it read. A new election for the position of DeLuca will follow shortly.
DeLuca was the longest-serving member of the United States House of Representatives in the state. He reportedly died of cancer last month at the age of 85. It was already too late to change ballots or candidates for the 32nd district, the report said.
In addition to the well-publicized national elections for the new composition of the US Congress in Washington, local votes were also held in many places on Tuesday. (zis/SDA)
