Somalia: Army kills dozens of Al-Shabaab fighters Elections have only just begun or the hardline Republican speaks more of fraud

At least 77 fighters from the Islamist terrorist militia Al-Shabaab have been killed in fighting in southern and central Somalia. A statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Information on Wednesday said government forces and armed civilians had entered the extremist stronghold of El Buur in Galguduud province, nearly 400 kilometers north of the capital, Mogadishu. More than 30 Islamists are said to have been killed.

The situation is precarious for many people in Somalia. War and drought disturb them.

Further fighting in the southern region of Shabeellaha Hoose killed 47 other al-Shabaab fighters. Al-Shabaab confirmed the fighting and said it had killed 10 Somali soldiers.

The government in Mogadishu has been conducting a military offensive against al-Shabaab for several months. The Islamist terrorists control large parts of the Central Somali region and the south of the country. However, with the support of armed clans and civilians, the Somali army has recently been able to capture a large area against Al-Shabaab. (saw/sda/dpa)
