The man then tries to take off her clothes. Although the crime took place in China, the police officer claimed the video showed the rape of a woman in the coastal town of Canet de Mar by a refugee minor.
In his tweet, which was viewed nearly 22,000 times, the police officer also claimed that the mainstream media covered up the rape. According to the prosecutor’s office, the official also published numerous other racist and xenophobic messages in online networks.
The prosecution demanded a two-year prison sentence for the police officer in the Barcelona trial. Shortly before the trial, however, he made a confession, which in return gave him a shorter prison sentence. He also has to pay a fine of 1620 euros. This is one of the first convictions for spreading false information in Spain.
Prison sentences of less than two years are usually suspended in Spain if there is no criminal record. Police have launched disciplinary proceedings against the man.
