Poll: Many voters at Midterms dissatisfied with the economy
According to a post-election poll, the economic situation in the country is a concern for many voters in the US midterm elections. Around a third of respondents mentioned inflation as the main problem for the voting decision, according to a study by a research institute for various American media such as CNN or ABC (local time) on Tuesday. In second place with 27 percent, people gave the topic of abortion, followed by crime, immigration and gun policy.

US President Biden and his Democrats had recently added domestic policies to the country’s high inflation — especially rising fuel prices caused discontent among the population. Republicans have raised the issue again in the election campaign. The Democrats, on the other hand, hoped to mobilize voters on the issue of abortion. A few months ago, the US Supreme Court overturned abortion rights in the country. (sda/dpa)

Trump Warns Florida Governor DeSantis Against Presidential Candidacy

ex-president Donald Trump Has Florida Governor Ron DeSantis threatened with uncomfortable revelations if he entered the race for the White House in 2024. He could talk about DeSantis “Telling things that aren’t exactly flattering”Trump told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “I know more about him than anyone else — except maybe his wife.”

Trump announced a “very big announcement” on Monday, Nov. 15. It can be assumed that he wants to announce his candidacy in the 2024 presidential election, which has long been hinted at.

The 76-year-old remains popular among Republican voters. And the few Republican politicians who broke with him after his lies about presidential election fraud were banned by the party.

But in the country as a whole, Trump is so controversial that several Republicans like DeSantis or his ex-Vice President Mike Pence would challenge him with their own candidacy. 44-year-old DeSantis, who is also on the right, is considered a particularly strong rival.

“If he starts, it could be very painful for him,” Trump said of the Florida governor. “I think he would make a mistake. I don’t think it would be good for the party.” DeSantis was re-elected as governor on Tuesday. He was ahead in the polls. (sda/dpa)

Trump complains about alleged irregularities – call to protest
On the day of the United States midterm elections, former US President Donald Trump complained about alleged voting irregularities – and called for protests. In Detroit, voters at the polls were told that they had already voted: “This is happening en masse, also elsewhere. Protest, protest, protest!”Trump wrote on Tuesday on the “Truth Social” social media platform, which he co-founded — without providing any evidence for his claims. Electronic voting machines are also reportedly not working in conservative districts of the disputed state of Arizona.

In a steady series of posts, Trump continued to spread accusations of alleged fraud in the midterm elections without any evidence, including writing: “Will the same thing happen with election fraud as in 2020???”

More than 45 million early voters in US midterm elections
More than 45 million people voted in the US midterm elections ahead of Election Day. This is evident from data from Tuesday afternoon (6 p.m. CET local time) published on its website by the US Elections Project research institute. In the so-called midterms of 2018 there were about 39 million so-called early voters (“Early Voters”), in 2014 there were 20.5 million.

In the US, early voting is now available at polling stations and by mail in nearly all states; rules and conditions vary from state to state. High turnout among early voters does not necessarily mean high turnout in general, as factors such as the coronavirus pandemic have changed the voting behavior of many people. Traditionally, fewer people participate in US midterm elections than in presidential elections.

In the United States, every one of the approximately 330 million American citizens who are at least 18 years old has the right to vote. Excludes residents of US territories such as Puerto Rico. Most states also don’t allow inmates or people convicted of a serious crime to vote. All others must register with the responsible electoral office before voting. The sometimes high barriers to registration and the fact that the election takes place on a Tuesday are reasons for the relatively low turnout. (sda/dpa)

Trump votes in Palm Beach – according to DeSantis

Former US President Donald Trump has voted in the US midterm elections and said he supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The 76-year-old appeared on Tuesday with his wife Melania at the Palm Beach polling station near his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. When a reporter asked him if he voted for DeSantis, Trump said, “Yes, I did.”

DeSantis, 44, is considered a possible 2024 presidential candidate and Trump’s biggest internal competitor, repeatedly alluding to his own candidacy and most recently promising a “very big announcement” for Nov. 15. To this day, Trump refuses to concede his defeat in the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden and continues to spread claims that mass voter fraud robbed him of a victory. (sda/dpa)

The counting may take a few days
The tally of votes cast in the US midterm elections could possibly take days – and it might not even be known until Januarywhich party will have the majority in the Senate in the future. Technical problems, a lack of polling station members and very tight decisions have in the past prevented a clear trend on election night. In some cases, the winner could not be announced until a significant delay.

The first polls in parts of Kentucky and Indiana will close at midnight German time on Wednesday night. At 1 a.m., the count begins in five states with elections for a U.S. senator post, including the likely particularly close decision in Georgia. At 2 a.m. GMT, the “270towin” page shows ten Senate decisions (including Pennsylvania), twelve governor decisions, and 161 House decisions. (sda)

The first polling stations are open
The long-awaited midterms have begun. The first polls opened early Tuesday morning (local time) in eastern states like Vermont and Connecticut. The final polls will not close at 7 a.m. ET Wednesday morning, as the United States spans multiple time zones.

The first meaningful results are expected early Wednesday morning (CET) after the first polling stations have closed. According to some experts, the results of the congressional elections could only be known after several days or even weeks due to some close races. Many people took advantage of the opportunity to vote by mail or in person before Election Day itself. (sda/dpa)
