Sister of dead cyclist appeals to climate activists

A 44-year-old cyclist died in Berlin. She was run over, transport to the hospital was delayed because climate protesters were taped to the street. Speaking to “Mirror,” the sister of the dead called on the “Last Generation” group to rethink their protest methods.

“I think I just want to tell them what I’ve been through and then give them a chance to throw themselves into this hell,” Anja U. told the news magazine, according to Tuesday’s advance announcement.

The activists must ask themselves “if there is no other way to fight for the survival of our planet without potentially harming other people”.

ignorance incomprehensible

“My sister and I share the goals of the movement 100 percent,” she said. But it hurts her a lot “how ignorantly some climate activists accept the death of people who may be working for environmental protection and other people themselves”.

The sister also reacted with incomprehension to calls for tougher sentences for roadblocks, comparisons with the RAF and preventive detention of some climate activists in Bavaria. “I have the impression that drastic is reacting to drastic — something extreme is coming up that I’m not sure I support,” she said.

criticism of the protest

Her sister was run over by a cement mixer in Berlin on Monday. She succumbed to her injuries on Thursday evening. A special fire service vehicle was stuck in traffic on Monday after the accident amid protests from “last generation” activists, arriving late at the accident site.

The Berlin police therefore filed charges against two protesters, including for failing to provide aid. After the accident, politicians from various parties criticized the demonstrators’ methods. (SDA)
