Whether it’s help setting up a television, hanging the curtains or remodeling a wall – James Young (42) can help. At least that’s what his wife Laura Young (38) promises on various platforms, “Mirror” reports: She hires her husband for household chores and offers his services for 40 pounds (45 francs) an hour.
The British woman came up with this idea through a podcast. One man reported that he earns his entire living doing odd jobs. Then she had the brilliant idea: her husband could do it too!
So she started advertising his services on the Facebook and Nextdoor platforms with the words “Hire my useful husband”, which means something like “Hire my useful husband”. And it worked: the 42-year-old had his first questions after just one day.
The idea grew into a full-time company
Demand is now so great that James Young is fully booked weeks in advance and has had to give up his previous job in the warehouse. At times, he even worked six days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in his wife’s new industry. “I never expected it to be as successful as it is now,” Laura Young told the paper. “We had to turn down orders and cut our hours, so we now work 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday.”
While her husband is away all day, Laura Young takes care of their three children and arranges the bookings. Some of the interested people live 250 kilometers away. “We had questions as far as Manchester,” says Laura Young. The family lives in Milton Keynes, between London and Birmingham. “We told them it might be more convenient to find someone close by. But of course we would have done it!” (Hi)
