Officially, Russia has mobilized about 100,000 men for the war in Ukraine. For their efforts they receive money from the Russian state. But apparently these wages are not paid.
As a result, more than 100 soldiers stationed at Ulyanovsk’s training center went on strike on Wednesday evening. They demanded that they get the promised money.
Videos show the protests in the evening. The soldiers stand outside shouting, “One for all and all for one!”. According to the online portal “7×7 – Horizontal Russia”, the National Guard was called in to break up the protests. You have lost contact with the informants in the training centre.
On the Telegram channel of the local newspaper “Serditaya Chuvashia” (Angry Chuvashia), the striking soldiers of the training center in Ulyanovsk published their message to Russian citizens:
In another video circulating on Twitter, a soldier for a running team demands that he be given the promised 300,000 rubles. He had traveled from Moscow to his native village to be summoned, but now he is not getting his money.
A supervisor contradicts him: the 300,000 rubles was never promised by her or anyone else. That was just an “idea” in Parliament. Then the soldier said, “What you want to tell us here is that we were fooled!”
Ulyanovsk is located in the Chuvash Republic in the west-central part of the country. The training center last came under the spotlight of the Russian press when a mobilized soldier there died, reportedly from a beating. (cf.)
