19 bodies of suspected illegal miners have been found in a mining area in South Africa. Security officials discovered the bodies on Wednesday afternoon after an anonymous call in the town of Krugersdorp near the economic metropolis of Johannesburg, police said. The cause of death is still unknown; an autopsy had begun, it said. Police said no crime was initially suspected.
In late July, the small town of Krugersdorp gained international fame when heavily armed assailants attacked a film crew in a disused mine that was shooting a video clip there. The attackers raped models between the ages of 19 and 35 and steel wallets, cell phones and jewelry. A total of 80 people have been brought before the court in this regard. (SDA/chs)
