Alleged Pelosi Attacker Pleads Innocent First Edition US Constitution Could Bring Millions At Auction

After the attack on the husband of American top politician Nancy Pelosi, the alleged perpetrator appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday. His lawyer pleaded innocent during the brief hearing in the San Francisco court, US media consistently reported from the courtroom.

Paul Pelosi was injured in the attack.

The 42-year-old is suspected of, among other things, attempted murder, burglary, assault and deprivation of liberty of an elderly person and threatening an official. The court initially decided to detain the man without the possibility of bail.

A few days before the US general election, Paul Pelosi was attacked and seriously injured at the couple’s San Francisco home. In the midst of the aggressively conducted election campaign, the perpetrator broke into there overnight, demanded Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, and brutally assaulted her 82-year-old husband. As it became known on Monday, the perpetrator planned to take Nancy Pelosi hostage and break her kneecaps.

In a separate federal case, the attacker is charged with attempted kidnapping of a government official and assaulting a family member of a government official. According to the US Department of Justice, he could face decades in prison if convicted. (sda/dpa)
